The family I grew up in was one in which no matter what struggles we were facing we were there for each other, even as our lives have led to different paths. No matter where we are in the world, we can count on each other. What a treasure that is. As I ponder on the future of the family I am creating, I like to imagine my children to coming home from college with their friends because of the love and comfort felt within the walls of my home. I want my children to want to come home for major holidays. All families, everywhere, should have such a great sense of belonging and support from each other, but for many families this is lacking!
For the past 20 years I have worked with youth and their families in a variety of settings but always with the goal to strengthen them as individuals as well as a family unit. Much joy and satisfaction is found in seeing families become stronger as they learn how to understand each other and how to have fun together. As a family is able to get to the roots of their struggles, and are able to overcome them, the family can then flourish as it was meant to do
The drive to help families took me to getting a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Upon completion of a Master’s degree I continued to work towards being a Registered Play Therapist in order to strengthen families not just through traditional talk therapy but also by incorporating play.
Friends will come and go out of your lives, but your family should be a consistent factor in your life.
